Pottery Disks Draw Comparison to Pottery Candles
For the first time the Nepal Pottery Purifier Project is now producing
pottery purifier disks, which are differently appropriate by comparison
with candles. When a prospective purifier project is planning water
system attributes versus production methodology the following table will
help in making informed decisions.
| Disk Purifiers | Candle Purifiers | |
| 1. Forming purifiers | Disks are simple to form, requiring simple dies. Production is faster. | Candles require more complex dies and presses, the forming process slower. |
| 2. User friendliness | Disks are simple to install in the bucket, no plastic parts needed in the seal. | Candles require plastic parts, which fasten to the bucket. |
| 3. Flow per time | Having less surface area per system the disk flow may be about half of that of a candle system. | System flow, additional requirements can be met by using the appropriate number of additional candles. |
| 4. Price | A system with a single disk is lower cost than a system with several candles, and is appropriate to the needs of fewer people. | A system with multiple candles is more expensive than a disk system is, most cost effective for the needs of additional people. |
